About LotPatrol
|
People always ask what the name "LotPatrol" means or where it came from. It's not really as clever as you think, contrary to what some believe it's not supposed to represent a group of people out "patrolling the lot" during shows and contests checking out drumlines. The name has little to do with drumming.... but shall remain shrouded in secrecy until a later time.
A few years ago I thought it would be cool to have a website for drumming, but then I realized there were millions of little sites like what I was trying to do and most of them were a lot cooler looking, but they all still provided just about the same information. I thought about how I could be different, that's where the interview section came from. It was mostly by accident that I even started having interviews on the site. All of the questions I asked were things that I really wanted to know, they weren't just asked because it made me more like Barbara Walters, I was curious, so I asked. After finding that people also found that interesting and most people involved with these percussion sections were quite willing to share I kept going. Madison Scouts were the first corps to agree, sadly that interview isn't present at the moment, but it was great, Sal Salas arranged so that a member of the drumline and one of the pit would be included...
So now the site has slowed down, I don't have as much time for the site as a used to. It takes a lot of time to scan everything on the internet to update the news and other features on the site. It's also difficult to come up with questions to ask people in interviews, I think all of the questions I've had were answered through the different people that I've talked with. The most exciting were the guys from the U.K. corps. Occasionally people will suggest a person to have on the site, but what would you like to know from that person? As always I'm open to help, comments, questions, suggestions, ideas, and anything else.
I guess there's not much else to tell... as for me, I marched 2 years of drum corps, some college and high school band, taught a year of corps, some high school band, a few indoor lines, and some private lessons. Any questions, just ask.
